Senior living volunteers and staff across the country gathered at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Community Leaders Summit in Atlanta in February. Attendees flock to the event to be inspired and educated, as well as to imagine a world without Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. Hope Jordan, Sales Director at Legend of Hutchinson, was there to represent Legend Senior Living as well as to learn new ways to serve seniors living with dementia and their family members.
Serving Those Living with Alzheimer’s in Hutchinson, KS
Hope Jordan is no stranger to serving seniors and their family members. However, when it comes to Alzheimer’s, she has both a personal and professional connection. “My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and with that, I watched her change into someone completely different,” recalls Jordan. Using her personal experience as a catalyst, Jordan found herself serving in senior care communities, helping countless families walk through loving someone living with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.
Today, Jordan serves on the Legend of Hutchinson team as a Sales Director, where she strives to positively impact the lives of residents and their families. “My commitment is to help build meaningful relationships through outreach and community involvement to better the lives of seniors living in the greater Hutchinson community,” says Jordan.
In addition to her role at Legend of Hutchinson, Jordan also supports the Alzheimer’s Association by fundraising and organizing community events, like the Hutchinson Walk to End ALZ. She is always finding new ways to raise awareness and pull the community together for a common cause: ending Alzheimer’s disease.
Legend of Hutchinson Represented at Alzheimer’s Association Community Leaders Summit
The Alzheimer’s Association reports that about 7 million adults are living with Alzheimer’s disease, with that number expected to rise to 13 million by 2050. While there is currently no cure for the condition, there have been advancements in quality of life and slowing progression over the past decade. These advancements are due, in part, to early awareness and scientific research. Organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association play a crucial role in fundraising for research, as well as advocacy and awareness.
The Alzheimer’s Association Community Leaders Summit gathers volunteers and staff members to be inspired by the shared vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. Attending delegates, like Hope Jordan from Legend of Hutchinson, are educated and empowered to play a role in their local community to learn more about the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“You have the opportunity to take what you’ve learned back to your community, working in tandem with Alzheimer’s Association chapter leaders to grow the reach of programs, raise more funds, and recruit new volunteers,” says Jordan.
What is her major takeaway from this year’s summit? Early detection is key. “New medications and treatments can give so much life back when the disease is caught in the early stages,” says Jordan. There is a lot of promise and momentum of current research, which left Jordan and fellow attendees leaving with a sense of optimism.
What Comes After a Dementia Diagnosis?
A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease or another type of dementia is difficult for the senior and their family members. Sorting through emotions and planning for the future can be easier when the senior and their family members have access to a team of experts. At Legend of Hutchinson, the team is dedicated to pointing seniors and family members in the right direction for resources and support, as well as offering a listening ear and a glimpse into the future.
“Our team works to educate families that are navigating a new diagnosis by connecting them to resources prior to admission to our residence, as well as helping them understand in real time the changes that they might see in their loved one,” says Jordan. Knowing what to expect in the next months and years can help family members make more confident decisions.
